THE TOWERTHON TORCH

Get ready to be witnesses of the KL Tower International Forest Towerthon Challenge 2008 held for the 7th consecutive year with participations from all over the world. The event, organized by KL Tower along with Federal Territory Amateur Athletic Association (FTAAA) will be held on February 3. Towerthon was officiated today by the Chief Executive Officer of KL Tower, Dato’ Zulkifli Mohamad with the passing of the torch by a participant. He was accompanied by the Secretary of FTAAA, Vegiyathuman and a photographer from Utusan Malaysia who participated in Malaysia Everest Project 2007, Mohd. Noor Mat Amin.Mohd. Noor is a man with special intention. He plans to make a solo attempt in “Pendakian Solo 50 Menara Kuala Lumpur” to carve his name in the Malaysia Book of Records by climbing the 2058 steps 50 times in three days starting from February 1.

Other participants will start the race by running up to the tower from the forest area before they climb the 2058 steps up to the finishing line at Tower Head 3. They are eligible to win prizes worth up to RM 95 000 and receive trophies, certificate of attendance and goodie bags.

Besides that main event, KL Tower will be introducing other fun activities that are suitable for those with families. It is called the lifestyle event – ‘Gaya Hidup Sihat Keluarga Penyayang’, which means Healthy lifestyle for a Caring Family. Among the activities are Tai Chi, Senamrobik, and Pocho-Pocho. There will also be other exciting activities that you can enjoy while at KL Tower such as Sport Carnival, Mini Paintball, Archery, and Street Soccer.

For those interested, forms can be obtained at the tower. Registration fees are RM 20 for men and women open and veteran category, RM 10 for men and women junior category, RM 100 for the group category and RM 50 for the non Malaysian. Special registration centre will also be set up at Lake Garden, also known as Taman Tasik Perdana this Saturday the 19th from 10 am to 5 pm.
